Mutts and mountains

Of all animals, Richard Ford prefers “mutts”. “I can relate better to mutts than to purebred dogs”. Needless to day, he is the proud owner of a “female mutt” called Yoda, “about four years old and only slightly overweight!”.

Dr Ford has one passion, downhill skiing (“I tried up-hill skiing but found that to be somewhat more difficult and less fun...”). In Granada, he will be accompanied by his wife Kathy, and looks forward to meeting colleagues from around the world. He has travelled to Spain on several occasions in the past, “a wonderful experience each time!”

R. Ford, “Feline infectious peritonitis”, “Canine and feline vaccination protocols”. Saturday 9.00, 11.30 am (State of the Art Lecture), Auditorio García Lorca.

Horses and hispanic gastronomy

Theresa Fossum’s favourite animal is the horse. “They are such beautiful animals; graceful and intelligent”. Not surprisingly, horseback riding belongs to Dr Fossum’s favourite hobbies. At home, Dr Fossum owns two dogs (Lindsay, a 12 y.o. female labrador and Trinity, an 8 m.o.female Golden Retriever) and two cats (Wayne, a 19 y.o. old domestic shorthair and Oliver, a 5 y.o. domestic longhair).

This is not Dr Fossum’s first visit to Spain – she has visited Madrid, Barcelona and Grand Canary – and will not be able to spend much time to visit during her stay. Which she regrets, as she loves “the people, food and wine of Spain!” While in Granada, she looks forward to “see a new part of the country and enjoy great food and wine”.

T. Fossum “Chylothorax”, “Surgical treatment of tracheal collapse”, “Pneumothorax”. Saturday 9.00, 9.45, 11.30 am, Auditorio Manuel de Falla.

Just married

Mike Lappin comes to Granada as a “just married” man. And to brace for the high temperatures in Southern Spain, he and his wife went on honeymoon in August to... Alaska. Dr Lappin enjoys the outdoors and his favourite hobbies are moutain biking, hiking, golf and tennis. Even though just taking his four dogs – two border collies “Evelyn” and “Norman”, “Conner” the terrier and “Tayter” the labrador - for walks would keep him busy enough! The household also counts four cats (Scout, Perf, Luke and Duncan). Cats are Dr Lappin’s favourite pet “because they are such personalities”.
While in Granada, he looks forward to “seeing old friends and meeting new” while “learning about veterinary medicine and furthering science by research connections”.

M. Lappin “Diagnosis and management of fever in cats”, “Update on infectious causes of diarrhoea in cats”. Saturday 2.30 and 5.00 pm, Auditorio García Lorca

Of squirrels, a rabbit and judo

Hervé Lefebvre’s favourite animals is... a squirrel! “Because it is very clever, cunning and able to run, climb, jump and fly !” At home, Hervé has another small mammal, a one-year-old Rex rabbit called “Lapinou”. Back in France, Dr Lefebvre enjoys skiing and judo, so be warned if you intend to ask awkward questions during his lectures! He also likes travelling, and has had the chance to visit Santiago de Compostela during a previous AVEPA congress.

H. Lefebvre, “Dosage regimen adjustment in renal failure: why, when and how?”, “Plasma creatinine for testing renal function: avoid misinterpretation”, “Effect of renal failure on gastrointestinal physiology in dogs” (Saturday, 9.00, 9.45 am, 5.00 pm, Andalucía III)

Congress, culture and chelonians

Dr Manuel Villagrasa’s favourite pet’s are dogs but he is the proud owner of two Persian cats (called Punta and Bambu), two tortoises... and two swallow’s nests! He loves painting, music, archaeology and the sea, so it is no surprise he has been to Granada before. Here at congress he is accompanied by his wife and together they hope to visit Las Alpujarras.

M. Villagrasa, “Intraocular tomours and tissues ultrasonography correlation”, “Ocular manifestations of canine and feline systemic hypertension” (Sunday, 9.00 and 9.45 am, Machado-Picasso).

Machado-Picasso).

First time in Spain

Cats are Remo Lobetti’s favourite animal. “Although they’re highly independent , they can also be very lovable”. Dr Lobetti has two cats of his own, “Shercan” and “Baghari”, both one year old. But the household also counts three dogs: a 7 yo German Shepherd called Aylmer and two Maltese, “Cujo” (10 yo) and “Tommy” (4 yo). Apart from walking and playing with his pets, Dr Lobetti is a keen amateur photographer in his spare time.
This is his first visit to Spain, and he looks forward to see the sights of Granada and to “catch up with friends and colleagues”.

R. Lobetti, “Canine and feline Babesiosis”, “Cytauxzoonosis”, “Infectious causes of anaemia”. Saturday, 9.00, 9.45 and 11.30 am, Albéniz.

"Working" lunch
Today`s entertainment: Los Verdiales
Like the previous days, delegates can enjoy a “working lunch” of traditional Spanish food on the third floor of the Palacio de Congresos, in the company of Spanish folklore singers. Today’s musicians are “Los Verdiales” with traditional country music from Andalusia. Lunch is included in the Congress registration.
