This female spayed Boxer is presented because of bilateral hairless areas in the flank region which are slowly progressing (pictures 1 and 2). Similar changes were already seen one year ago at the same time of the year (autumn). At this time, the food was changed to special diet for dogs with skin and coat problems and the hair grew completely back. Although the owners strictly continued with this food the hair loss started again. The two other dogs and the owners have no skin problems.

How would you proceed?

	a) You recommend another food change to hypoallergenic food with hydrolyzed proteins because you suspect food hypersensitivity
	b) You suspect food hypersensitivity but want to prove your diagnosis. So you take blood for an in vitro (ELISA) test for food allergens
	c) The improvement of the skin problems is not necessarily caused by the new food. Your diagnostic plan starts with deep skin scrapings for demodex mites
	d) You suspect a sex hormone imbalance. You inject a depot gestagen and wait what happens
