It is estimated that 25% of calls to veterinary surgeons about horses relate to respiratory problems. Respiratory disease primarily affects athletic performance, and this represents a significant problem both in sporting horses and those kept as companion animals.
In parallel to our corporate speciality in human respiratory disease, Vetmedica has a portfolio of products for the treatment of both acute and chronic respiratory diseases in horses:
Ventipulmin® (clenbuterol hydrochloride) is, and has been for two decades, the treatment of choice for the alleviation of the symptoms associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in horses. Acting in the same way as many human asthma products, Ventipulmin relieves the airway spasm seen in COPD and other respiratory problems. The product is available in a number of formulations (granules, syrup, injection, powder, powder combination with antibiotic) in order to facilitate treatment in both acute and chronic disease events.
Sister products Sputlosin® (Dembrexine) and Bisolvon® (Broxmhexine) are also available for the treatment of respiratory complaints in horses, by reducing the thickness of mucus, which is a significant complicating factor in equine respiratory disease.
