Mode of Action
Light and electron microscopic studies show that toltrazuril is active against all intracellular stages of coccidia, including schizonts, micro- and macrogamontes. It interferes with the division of the protozoal nucleus, the activity of the mitochondria and damages the wall forming bodies in the microgametes. Toltrazuril produces severe vacuolisation of the protozoal endoplasmatic reticulum in all intracellular developement stages.
Indication/Description
1-methyl-3-(3-methyl-4-(4-((trifluoromethyl)thio)phenoxy)phenyl)-1,3,5- triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione (CAS-No. 69004-03-1) ; BAYCOX Solution 2,5% is highly effective against all coccidia of chickens and turkeys. Moreover, BAYCOX is active against mammalian coccidia, Sarcocystis and Toxoplasma. Specifically, BAYCOX acts against the following relevant coccidia of poultry: Chicken: Eimeria acervulina Eimeria brunetti Eimeria maxima Eimeria mitis Eimeria necatrix Eimeria tenella Turkey: Eimeria adenoides Eimeria meleagridis Eimeria meleagrimitis ; 1-methyl-3-(3-methyl-4-(4-((trifluoromethyl)thio)phenoxy)phenyl)-1,3,5- triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione (CAS-No. 69004-03-1) ; BAYCOX 5% Suspension is indicated for use against neonatal Isospora suis-coccidiosis in piglets.

Method of Administration
Oral administration of a single dose at 3 to 5 days of age.
Dosage
Poultry: 7 mg/kg body weight for 2 consecutive days; 24 hours continuously or for 8 hours each day in the drinking water. In cases of restricted water uptake (e.g. pullets on feed restriction or concurrent disease) treatment may be extended for 3 days.
Piglets: The recommended dosage of toltrazuril is 20 mg per kg live mass. This corresponds to a dose of 1 ml BAYCOX 5% Suspension per 2.5 kg live mass.
